Highviz vs Buffer

Buffer is one of the cleanest and cheapest ways to publish across every network at once. It was built to post, not to explain. If your real question is what to make next, not when to schedule it, that’s a job Buffer never set out to do.

Buffer isn’t the enemy here. It’s one of the cleanest publishing tools ever built, the free plan is genuinely useful, and the paid plans sit among the most affordable in the category. If your bottleneck is getting posts out the door across a handful of networks, Buffer handles that neatly and cheaply. This page asks a different question: what to make in the first place.

What Buffer gets right

Buffer’s a publishing tool, and a very good one. Connect your channels, load a queue, and it pushes posts out on schedule across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky and Mastodon. The interface stays out of the way, the mobile app is solid, and Buffer Insights gives you a clean read on likes, comments, impressions, reach, new followers and your top posts, with a PDF or CSV export on the paid plans.

Pricing is refreshingly plain. As of July 2026 the free plan covers 3 channels, 10 queued posts per channel and a 30-day insights window. Essentials is $5 per channel a month on annual billing, or $6 billed monthly, with unlimited scheduling. Team adds unlimited members and approvals at $10 per channel a month annually, $12 monthly. There’s a 14-day trial on the paid plans. It bills per channel, so the cost tracks how many accounts you run, not a fixed seat.

For a creator or a small brand whose main job is publishing consistently, that’s a fair deal, and hard to argue with.

Where the analytics stop

Buffer Insights is honest about what it is: a clean scoreboard. It sets your channels side by side, trends them over time, surfaces your top content, even writes a short takeaway about what to try next. What it never does is look inside the post. It counts that a reel did well. It has no read on whether that came down to the hook, the face in the opening frame, the colour grade or the subject. Every number is an outcome, and the content that produced it, the part you actually control, stays out of view.

What Highviz does with the same posts

Highviz picks up exactly where the scoreboard stops. Every post and reel goes through a vision pipeline: the dominant colours, whether a face appears and where it sits, the objects in the frame, text on the image, and how each reel opens. Each of those gets weighed against your own engagement history, and the gaps that survive that test become findings, written in plain sentences and tagged with a confidence level.

A finding reads like a note to self: your reels that open on movement hold viewers longer than the ones that open on a title card, high confidence, so open on movement. Enough of those and you’ve got a recipe for your account, and you can score a draft against that recipe before you publish. When a number doesn’t add up, ask in plain English and the answer comes back tied to your data.

Two different bills

Buffer’s cheap, and this isn’t an argument that it isn’t. It’s an argument that the two tools bill for different things. Buffer is a subscription that runs every month for every channel you keep connected. Highviz is a one-time pack from $14 to $99, sized to your account, that reads your content history once and leaves the findings with you for good. Pro at $14 a month is optional, and only matters if you want daily refresh and every new post read as it lands. Pay once, take the recipe, walk away.

Keep Buffer, add Highviz

  • Buffer if the job is publishing: a clean queue, a fair per-channel price, posts going out on time across every network.
  • Highviz if the thing you actually wrestle with is what to make next, and you’d sooner pay once than rent a dashboard.
  • Both, and they won’t step on each other: Buffer ships the calendar, Highviz decides what earns a slot on it. Plan next month in Buffer with your Highviz findings open alongside. If scheduling is the whole job, our Highviz vs Later piece covers the best planner in the category.
Key takeaway

Buffer gets your posts out the door and tallies how they did, cheaply and well. What it can’t do is tell you why the good ones were good. That’s the gap Highviz fills, once, for a one-time price.
